Winegrowers in Muscadet since 1723

Mathilde Ollivier and Stéphane Cottenceau represent the 8th generation of winegrowers at Domaine de la Grenaudière, taking over from Guy and Jean-Luc Ollivier. The first generations were mixed farmers, as were most farms at the time. Over time, the family business specialised in growing vines and producing quality dry white wines. Over the last 150 years, 4 generations have succeeded one another in bringing out the best in the Melon de Bourgogne (Melon B) grape variety, emblematic of Muscadet.

A new generation of winemakers to continue the family heritage

Two oenologist friends have joined forces to perpetuate a tradition, that of the Grenaudière winegrowers.

Mathilde and Stéphane have decided to carry on the work of past generations, while at the same time innovating to continue producing excellent dry white wines with a strong international reputation.

"I, Mathilde, now represent the 8th generation of the estate. Very attached to the land of my birth, I have always followed in the footsteps of my elders.

I, Stéphane, was born into a family of winegrowers at the heart of Burgundy and its parcel-based vision. I bring a fresh eye to the terroirs of Muscadet.

Our past experiences have enabled us to visit and work in many vineyards around the world.

Inspired by the heritage of past generations, we are proud to combine it with the fruit of our expertise and discoveries."

Exceptional terroirs

Situated between the Sèvre and Maine rivers, the vineyards are planted on granite soils from the Armorican Massif.

It's a great opportunity for us to be on the terroirs of the Crus Communaux Clisson and Château Thébaud.

Clisson The soil is coarse-textured, with sand and pebbles predominating, and not very fertile. The subsoil is Clisson granite.

Château Thébaud Château Thébaud: stony soil, but more generally sandy (from decomposed granite) and shallow. The vines grow on a subsoil of granodiorite (calc-alkaline granite) and gneiss derived from this granite.

A single grape variety, Melon B

Planted almost exclusively in Muscadet, Melon de Bourgogne is a compact grape variety with small yellow berries. This variety produces beautifully fresh dry white wines.

Originally from Burgundy, as its name suggests, Melon B is a cross between Pinot Noir and Gouais Blanc.

This not very aromatic variety reveals the diversity of the Muscadet terroirs.

Ageing on lees, a tradition in Muscadet

At Domaine de la Grenaudière, the wines are aged on lees for between 6 and 60 months. The wines are matured in underground, glass-lined vats. The excellent thermal inertia of these underground vats means that the wine can be stored and matured to a very high standard.

This is the culmination of meticulous, carefully thought-out work from the vineyard right through to the winemaking process.

Ageing on lees gives the wines great stability and optimal maturation, giving them fatness and aromatic complexity.

A 27-hectare vineyard, 100% MELON DE BOURGOGNE

Planted exclusively with the Melon de Bourgogne grape variety, the Domaine de la Grenaudière vineyard covers 27.50 hectares. The plots are located in the commune of Maisdon sur Sèvre on the slopes of the Sèvre and Maine rivers, which gave their name to the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine appellation. The vineyard is HVE3 certified.

We make a point of thinking through all our vine-growing practices with the aim of maintaining a healthy ecosystem and biodiversity within our vines.

The vineyard is planted at a density of 7,000 vines/ha.
